A Little Guide History
South Fork Outfitters is proud to employ the best guide staff on the river. Several of our guides have been guiding in this area for more than 25 years. All of our guides are excellent and passionate teachers as well as superb boatmen and women. You can rest assured knowing that you are in able hands whether you are a rank beginner or an angling expert. The guides at South Fork Outfitters will do everything possible to ensure an experience that will make you want to return year after year.
- Brett Novik -
Brett has been head-guide at South Fork Outfitters since 2005. He is originally from New York. In 1996 his passion for fishing and hunting brought him to Southeast Idaho where he started guiding for Spence Warner on the South Fork of the Snake River. During the Summer of 2001 he represented the South Fork Lodge as a guide on ESPN2's In Search of Fly Water.
Brett is also a certified Coast Guard Captain and spends his winters in Key West, Florida where he and Sue Talbot, run their Florida flats fishing business:

In 2007 Brett and Sue were featured on Adventure Guides VERSES/OLN. It was filmed on the flats of Key West, Florida.

- Ed Emory -
Ed first fished the South Fork in the fall of 1987 and fell in love with the river. During the spring of 1990 he began guiding for Trout Creek Flies on the Green River in Utah and moved to Swan Valley to guide for South Fork Outfitters in the summer of 1991.
Ed spends April through June on the Green and July through March on the South Fork.He is also licensed through Henry's Fork Anglers on the Henry's Fork and surrounding waters as well. Every year guides from our shop represent us in the Jackson Hole One-Fly Contest. Ed, we are proud to say, was the top scoring guide in both the 2001 and 2002 events. He was also the 2002 Carmichael Award winner, an award given to the guide of the year. Ed does some commercial fly tying to fill in the gap between the Green and the South Fork. Ed enjoys upland bird hunting and usually goes on a fishing adventure or two. Ed has spent time fishing in Baja, Chile, New Zealand, and Alaska.

- Lyle "Ooley" Piram -
Ooley's family built a cabin on Palisades Creek near Swan Valley in 1954. He spent his early years fishing on Palisades Creek, and when he turned ten he started fishing the South Fork with his father. In 1978 Ooley began his guiding career, and in 1980 became an Outfitter on the South Fork of the Snake River.
Ooley ran his own guide service until 1992, at which time he sold his permit. Ooley started working for South Fork Outfitters in 1993, and is licensed through Henry's Fork Anglers to guide on the Henry's Fork and surrounding waters. He also owns several rental properties in Idaho Falls and splits his time as a fishing guide/landlord.
Ooley Piram is a master on the history of our area, so by spending a day on the river with Ooley not only will you catch fish but you will also receive an education. In his spare time Ooley likes to hunt, fish, and as master carpenter builds beautiful wooden drift boats and trailers.

- Eric Anderson -
Eric is a very experienced fly fisherman and a great teacher. He first fished the South Fork in 1985 and has made annual fishing trips to eastern Idaho every year since. Eric has been fly fishing his whole life. His father was co-owner of the first fly shop in Boise, Idaho. Eric's father sold the business in the 1980's, but continued to organize destination fly fishing adventure trips around the world until his death in 1999.
Eric was fortunate enough to accompany his father on some of these trips including Peru, Alaska, and Canada. During the off-season Eric works as a Powder Cat Ski guide at Grand Targhee Resort in Wyoming. Eric and his wife Sarah, also an avid skier and fly fisher, reside in Teton Valley, Idaho.

- Sue Talbot -
Sue is a local girl, from Idaho Falls, Idaho. She started her guiding career in 1995 at Wapiti River Guides in Riggins, Idaho. She ran Idaho white water trips in drift boats and rafts on the Lower Salmon River, Hells Canyon of the Snake River, the Owyhee River and the Grand Rhonde River. In 1998 Sue focused her attention on fly fishing and began guiding for Drifters on the South Fork of the Snake River.
Sue has been a guide at South Fork Outfitters since June of 2002. Sue has guided many clients over the years and is fierce competitor. She posted big fish in the 2004 Jackson Hole One Fly and won "Top Guide" honors at the One Fly Competition in 2006.
Sue is also a certified Coast Guard Captain and spends her winters in Key West, Florida where she and Brett Novik run their own Florida flats fly fishing business:

- Chuck Quint-
Chuck first came to Idaho in 1978. Originally from Southern California, Chuck fell in love with the wide open spaces. For the next ten years Chuck made it a point to come back at least once a year. In 1988 Chuck made the move to Idaho and has been a year round resident every since. Chuck started guiding full time on the Henrys Fork of the Snake River.
Chuck came to work for South Fork Outfitters in the summer of 2004. He has averaged 80 to 100 trips a summer and has done a fantastic job. We are very happy to have Chuck Quint guiding for us. Chuck, his wife Sharon, and their 13 year old daughter Kristine live in Teton Valley, Idaho. When not on the river they can be found horseback riding, skiing Grand Targhee, Jackson Hole, or Pebble Creek. In the off season Chuck also does yacht maintenance in Anacortes, Washington.

- Zach Peyton -
Zach started fishing not long after he learned to walk. Around the age of twelve fly fishing came to dominate most camping trips and family outings. He first fished the South Fork of the Snake River at the age of seventeen and fell in love. Zach started guiding for South Fork Outfitters in 2004. Zach has been teaching fly fishing courses at Idaho State University during the off season since 2002. Zach's enthusiasm for the sport and teaching experience make him able to cater to the beginner as well as the experienced angler. We appreciate his confidence and patience with our clients and guests.

- Lynnae Kreager -
In the summer of 1998, while living in the McCall Idaho area, Lynnae started her guiding career doing back country trips in the Payette River Mountains of Cascade Idaho. It was in 1991 that Lynnae first came to Southeast Idaho with her husband Brad. They both fell in love with area. Lyannae started guiding on the South Fork of the Snake River and the surrounding waters in the summer of 2000, and came to work us at South Fork Outfitters in 2005. She has done an exceptional job for us doing what she loves best.fishing. In the winter months Lynnae can be found skiing the Payette River Mountains or running a small Espresso shop in the town of McCall, ID. What an off-season.

- Brad Kreager -
Brad first came to southeast Idaho on a fishing trip with his wife Lynnae in 1991. He spent every spare second he had fishing the Henrys Fork and the South Fork. In 2002 Brad started guiding full time on the South Fork and the Henrys Fork of the Snake River. It was in 2005 that Brad started guiding for South Fork Outfitters. He has been a great addition to the staff and we are happy to have him on our team. In the off season Brad and his wife Lynnae work as ski instructors and back country guides at Tamarack Resort in the Payette River Mountains and live in McCall, Idaho. Brad is also an accomplished fly tier and carpenter.

- Dan Hurzeler -
Dan Hurzeler was born and raised in Idaho Falls. He grew up in a family of anglers. Dan was able to start fly fishing at the age of six. He would tag along with his father, Ralph, for adventures all over Idaho and Montana. When Dan is not chasing trout, you can find him up north a bit from here looking for Steelhead near Salmon, Idaho. Dan is the president of Idaho Steelhead, Salmon Unlimited.
Salmon Unlimited is Idaho's only organization working to restore the states Wild Anadromous Steelhead runs. Carp are another fish who hold in the waters south of the South Fork Outfitters, and Dan has an immense amount of respect for these large , strong fighting fish. "These fish really put the wood to you, and are very smart fish, these fish will test your skill!" In 2005 Dan, Kenly Bitton, and Brooks Montgomery started the Fin-Chasers, Carp Classic. The Carp Classic is a fly fishing only contest that has become a fund raiser for guides or other members of the fishing community in need of help. Dan Hurzeler loves trout, salmon, steelhead, sturgeon, carp, bluegill, and on and on and on....it goes.

- Jason Bosworth -
Growing up in Idaho Falls gave Jason ample opportunity to fish the South Fork and other surrounding waters. Jason caught his first trout at the ripe old age of three and has been hooked every since. In the summer of 2004 Jason began his guiding career at South Fork Outfitters. He has averaged 80 to 100 trips a summer and has done a great job for us. When not on the river Jason can be found with his son Jake and their dog Zoe hunting, tying flies, or in the Teton back-country with a snow board. In the off-season Jason works on homes as a master carpenter.

- Cole Sutheimer -
Cole started guiding for South Fork Outfitters in 2006 after seven years with another outfitter. Cole is a Swan Valley native and has been fishing the Snake for as long as he can remember. Cole's father managed the Palisades Dam for 8 years and when he was not at work he and Cole could be found fishing one of the many hot spots on the South Fork of the Snake. Cole's knowledge of the river is second to none. We are very happy to have Cole here at South Fork Outfitters. When not on the river, Cole can be found at the vise twisting foam, hackle, and rubber into new patterns for the river. In the off season he is an avid snowboarder and attends Idaho State University in Pocatello.

- Dirk Burgard -
Dirk is originally from Idaho Falls, Idaho. He learned to fly fish on the Henry's Fork while visiting his grandparents' cabin along the Buffalo River during the summers. Dirk ran his first guide trips in 1978 as a whitewater guide on the Snake, and started running trips for Spence Warner and the South Fork Lodge in 1979. Dirk owned and managed Solitude Sports, a sporting goods store in Idaho Falls, from 1979 - 1990. He has also spent time during the winters as a Saltwater Guide in Belize since 1981, and currently works for the Belize River Lodge.
Dirk has been a fixture in the Jackson Hole One Fly since its beginning. He was the One Fly Carmichael Award Winner in 1996 and has been the highest scoring guide in the contest seven times, including the summer of 2000. Dirk has fairly limited availability. Generally, he is available to guide from around July 15th until the end of September.

- Stacey Hill -
Stacey Grew up on the banks of the South Fork, literally. He started fly fishing at the age of ten and has been hard at it ever since. Stacey started guiding for South Fork Outfitters in June of 2002. He works part time for us and is available Friday through Sunday most every week. Stacey works full-time for the Idaho Department of Energy as an engineer. Stacey is an avid outdoors man and enjoys most any activity that includes fresh air. Stacy and his wife Melanie are the proud parents of three children: Chelsey, Dawson, and Madison.

- Tim Woodard -
Tim Woodard began learning to catch catfish, bluegill, and large mouth bass, in Nebraska at a very early age; and became an avid bass angler when his family moved to Kansas City during his high school years. Tim began fly fishing at the age of 14 when his grandmother gave him his first fly rod. That fly rod would travel with him as he continued west and began his education at BYU-Idaho in 2001. Since coming to Southeastern Idaho in 2001, Tim has been very busy fly fishing and learning the rivers in the area. In the off season, when Tim isn't chasing trout, he can often be found strapped to a snowboard enjoying the outdoors or teaching Fly Fishing and Fly Tying classes, with Idaho State University, at their Idaho Falls campus. Tim Woodard's current plans are to attend graduate school at Idaho State University, and looks forward to pursuing a career as a Professor.

- Mateo Urrutia -
Mateo graduated in 1999 from California State Long Beach with a Bachelors Degree in Finance. Mateo enjoys spending time with his wife and two boys fishing, hunting, and skiing. When he is not on the water or in the hills he can be found helping clients with both Real Estate and Financing. If you are looking for a home in the area send him an email.
